iPad land
So I bought a new iPad yesterday. I wanted to get the 3G model. My previous one worked great, but I needed to use it while not in a wifi coverage area. Having the 3G gives me a lots of freedom.
I’ve been using it for 2 days and I already passed the 250 megs cap… A good thing that I took the 5 gigs data plan. I never thought that I would use that much data.

iPad case
I’ve had my iPad since launch day. I’m in Canada, so I bought one from a fellow who went to the States to get one.
I didn’t have any protecting case for 2 month. I didn’t wanted to order one online and I was able to wait for supply to come to Canada. In that time, my iPad mostly stayed at home that whole time. I did find some pretty nice cases on the net. One of the best...
iPad apps
I might start making posts about iPhone / iPad apps that I’ve bought. I don’t normally buy a lot of apps, but these apps are so good and are cheap that I don’t see why I wouldn’t buy them.
Reeder - Best iPad news reader app. It sync with your Google reader account, nice interface.
AirVideo - Best way to share video from your computer to your iPad / iPhone, it does...

Android Land
“Android Land” will probably be a series of post regarding my finding / hints on Android based phones.
I just purchased a new Nexus One. It’s my second one as I had the T-Mobile, aws band version when it got out. I now have the AT&T version that has 3G working in Canada.
With my first one, I had some anoyance with the fact that SMS notification didn’t vibrate at all....

I dipped my toe in Android land
I’ve been using a Google Nexus One phone since 3 days. I’m using it exclusively, keeping my iPhone 3GS without a sim card and power off at home. This is a nice experience because I was always curious about this new phone os. I never tried version 1.x, so I can’t tell how much it evolve since day one. What I can say for now, I like it. But there are a few things that I would like...
Weewar Stats
For almost a year, I’ve been playing Weewar, an online game based on Advanced War for the Nintendo DS. It’s a turn base game that you receive email when it’s your turn to play. It got chat, around 12 types of units, air, land and sea, it’s really cool and fun. You should try it. I’m “optikz” in the game, friend me up and let’s play.

Jolicloud on my Sony Vaio P
Well my Vaio P has been gathering dust from quite some time now. I’ve stop using it as it was too slow and even in Linux, I wasn’t really satisfied. I’ve been waiting for some time to try something new on it, but the Intel GMA500 video card is kind of keeping me away from a lot of distro / options.
Jolicloud looked promising, but it took them like 2-3 month to release a GMA 500...
2010 resolutions
This year, I’ll make things simple… As making a list of things I want to achieve is probably one of the worst thing you can do. Last year I only did 3 things out of 9. Maybe 9 was too much. Thinking about it, it should not, cause you have 12 month to do stuff. You could spread it all over evenly and be able to do one thing a month. But history says it doesn’t work. So...

Looking back on 2009
Let’s have a look back at the big highlights of 2009.
Olivier my second child (last one) was born on the August 31.
I’ve bought a house in Montreal.
I’ve lost a job, but I’ve reinstated my personal company and started to work for myself. This is good as I found a consulting gig 2 weeks down the road. I will now work on stuff that matters to me.
As for my 2009...

If you would like to use your iPhone 3.0 with your bluetooth capable Ubuntu 9.04 PC then uit.sh (Ubuntu Iphone Thethering) is for you. This script installs all required conf, allows you to enable and...
Password security
I had a talk lately about password. People are asking me, what are good password? Well let me tell you how I create my random password that I use. I have 3 rules to create them.
It needs to be longer than 8 chars. 10 chars is a sweet spot.
It needs to contain numbers, extended chars and letters. All of those!
Extended chars and numbers need not to be use to end the password, some of...

Safari 4 tabs
I didn’t want to come to this, but Safari’s tabs on top is getting on my nerve. If you ever miss the X to close the tab and double click, it minimize the browser window. That happen so many times a day that I stop counting.
Here is what to do to get the old look and feel back.
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4TabBarIsOnTop -bool NO
That’s it, problem solved.

VNC to OSX
I always had problem connecting to my home computer running OSX from a Windows computer. VNC was slow, it didn’t work too well.
I tried TightVNC today and it solved all my problems. It’s fast and work as good as screen sharing on OSX.
I’m just happy to report this, you may carry on! :-)
Twitter
I installed Tweetie on my iPhone. I can only say that it is way better than Twitteriffic.
I was using the free version of Twitteriffic, it might not compare with Tweetie since the last one is a paid app.
Ubuntu on my Vaio P
I’ve installed Ubuntu Linux on my Vaio P. It’s quite easy with Ubuntu 9.04 Beta. Graphic card, wireless, some function keys, hibernate and suspend works out of the box. Some tweak are needed, but everything works quite ok.
Here is what needs to be tweak for it to work. First thing, graphic card, you need 2 tweaks for it to work in native 1600x768 resolution.
Grub, you need to...

Update Sony Vaio P
It’s now been almost 3 weeks since I got my Vaio P. It’s really a great little laptop. I once had a Asus EeePC 701 and this little dude kicks his ass. Ok, It’s not a great comparaison, I know, first gen Netbook vs a brand new one. But this is only what I have used.
I did try to install Linux on it, but the Vesa resolution isn’t that great, it’s slow as hell! I...
Creating a USB key boot drive
Like every good unix person, I like to run some flavor of Linux on my PC computer. So since I got the cool Vaio P, I wanted to try the lates and greates Ubuntu release. I didn’t want to trash my Windows partition or repartition everything to make some space for Linux.
Here comes the Ubuntu USB key.
It’s all specified on there website. You can make your key in Linux with dd, you...
Sony Vaio serie P
I got a new gadget this week. A white Vaio serie P, netbook computer, errr, Lifestyle PC as Sony calls them. It’s a 8.9 inch computer with a really great 1600x768 screen. The screen is so small that it’s sometime hard to use. When it’s sitting on a table, it’s not that bad. Else, you need to crank up the font dpi to 120 so it’s comfortable.
The bad thing,...

<RANT>
I really like Facebook, it’s great to keep track of your friends and to know how they’re doing and all. But the thing is, I hate it when my friends keep sending me invite or notices for their newly found apps. I don’t want to know how I look in Chinese, I don’t want to be a gangster, I don’t want to respond to question… You get the picture? I...
Business Cards
I think I need business cards. I need to sell myself, not that I have a company or anything, but I may encounter situation like this weekend that I need to give out my phone number or email address. I need an easy way to do so, and sending an email from my phone to the person that needs it doesn’t cut it. It might be that it’s way too cold to type or not that practical.
So here...

What I use
Since I like to know what people use I decided to make a post of my own setup. Here it goes.
I now use a brand new Apple Mackbook pro unibody 2.53ghz, 4gigs 1067mhz ram, 320gigs drive. Macbook Air, first gen, 1.8ghz with 64gb SSD drive. At home it stands on a Griffin cristal iCurve and connected to a Samsung 24” SyncMaster 2493HM. I use an Apple bluetooth aluminium keyboard with a...
JPGmag is closing down.
I kind of knew when JPGmag forced Derek Powazek to leave the Mag that it would fail… I’m kind of sad, because I really liked the JPG.

My 2009 Resolutions
Like everyone, every years, we tend to make resolutions. Well I’m no different, I did some last year, but I can’t find them. I probably didn’t do any of them. And now since 2008 is almost over, I made some new one that I’ll be working on them in 2009. I hope I’ll be able to find them next year to see how much good I did.
Here goes my 2009 list:

Removing my Twitter feed.
I’ve decided to remove my Twitter feed from my Tumblr. This was getting ridiculous, because I wasn’t posting that much and the only thing you could see was my Twitter post. The posts that you could look or follow directly on Twitter or Socialthing! or Friendfeed, whatever works for you.
I’ll be trying to post more here in the future. I have 3-4 post that I would like to do in...

It's a bet!
Well, we made a bet at the office. We bet a 100$ that we will loose 20 lbs. We’re 6 to take that bet. That’s 500$ to be won to the person who looses his 20 lbs. Our boss added an other 100$ and a consultant did the same. So now, the pot is at 700$. That’s pretty good.
Since this week, I lost 4 lbs. I’ve stated to loose weight since 3 weeks ago and I already lost 8...
