New gadget.

I’ve been playing with a new gadget since Thursday. I’ve bought an Eee pc from Asus. It’s a nice little laptop, subnotebook, with a 7 in display, 1 gig of ram, 4 gigs ssd drive, 3 usb, a SD card reader, a webcam, wifi and ethernet. It runs Linux in an easy mode with the possibility to unlock an expert mode. You can install Windows XP on it and other flavors of Linux like Xubuntu.

This small notebook is the perfect companion for any trip. It’s really small, around 9x6 inch and only weight 0.92kg. It’s loaded with the essential program like Firefox, Thunderbird and even Skype. It has 3.5 hours battery life. (which I didn’t really test.) It’s like the best computer to take on a flight around the world or any place that you don’t really trust with your 2000$ laptop. It has everything essential to keep contact with your family. Why carry a big laptop when you can have a tiny “power house”. :-)

I’m an Apple fanboy, but this small laptop really took me by suprise. It fill the gap nicely between my full feature Macbook Pro and my iPhone. It will be great on my next trip. As I don’t need a full laptop to surf the net, read emails and keep contact with my family.

And the best thing, it only cost 400$. There are smaller models without the webcam and other with less drive space, priced respectively 349$ and 299$.

And don’t forget the community, Eeeuser.  They’re a great help in seting up and customising your new Eee pc.
